Why I Chose This Topic
I have recently been watching Winter Olympics, and I like how everything is organized and well coordinated. From the opening ceremonies to the individual events, it's obvious that an insane amount of preparation goes into organizing all of this. The way every event transitions smoothly and how athletes from different countries come together makes it even more impressive to watch. Watching athletes compete on such a high level made me curious to know what it actually takes to prepare for sports like this. The discipline, focus and conditioning that is needed to even step a foot on this Olympics is unreal. It really makes you realize that what we see on screen is just the final result of years of training, sacrifices, and consistent effort behind the scenes.
This project investigates the big role that fitness plays in Olympic performance. Behind each of these downhill runs or skating routine is a strict training program that is obviously structured around strength, endurance, balance, and I think the most important - mental preparation. I wanted to relate what I see on the Olympics broadcasts to the actual fitness principles involved in those performances. Even though most of us will never compete in the Olympics, many of the same training ideas can definitely apply to improving our own health, discipline and physical fitness. Also, I just wanted to note that my family had to get a trial for a Youtube TV subscription, which is 90$ a month to watch the Olympics. "ofc we are going to cancel that trial, we got too much subscriptions going"
